The children and volunteers of the Hatzikyriakeio Foundation for Child Protection invite us once again to the Christmas bazaars they are organizing on Friday 7, Saturday 8 and Monday 10 December 2012 at the Leroy Merlin store (Pireos 165 and Neou Falirou, Agios Ioannis Rentis), and the following weekend, 15 to 16 December, at the Hatzikyriakeio Foundation building (Kleisovis 18, Piraeus). The bazaars will be open from 10:00 to 20:00.

At the bazaar we will find original ideas and handmade creations for our Christmas gifts, such as bags, lucky charms, calendars, decorative items, accessories, clothing, cosmetics, natural products and oven-baked treats!!

Everyone's wish is that it continue to provide shelter, care, emotional support, educational and recreational opportunities to girls facing serious social and financial problems, as it has done for more than 100 years. The wider economic crisis affecting the country and our fellow citizens also affected Hatzikyriakeio. The very heavy taxation imposed on it because of the recent economic measures, together with the large real-estate property tax for the neoclassical building where it had been housed until the 1999 Athens earthquake, as well as the disincentives for donors, created great difficulty. There is a great need for donations in kind (food, stationery, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, underwear and more), as well as for financial donations. Hatzikyriakeio is a private-law legal entity and receives no state subsidy. Its income comes from the use of the real estate bequeathed to it by its founder, Ioannis Hatzikyriakos, from events organized with the help of its sponsors and volunteers, and from donations.

Let us all respond to this call, then, and contribute however we can to this important cause, whether from our limited means or through our voluntary work.
