"Sexual Abuse (A Secret? Not Any More)"
by the Hellenic Society for the Study and Prevention of Sexual Abuse, published under the editorship of Orestis Giotakos, psychiatrist, and Viktoria Prekate, psychologist.
The book was published in 2006 by Ellinika Grammata editions and contains 486 pages.
It contains chapters on independent topics, developed concisely by thirty-seven -37- specialist scientists.
It is a collection of informative scientific articles referring to the "phenomenon" of sexual abuse.
It is divided into six -6- sections or, as noted on the cover, the volume is structured in six parts.
In the first, the psychological and sociological analysis of the trauma of sexual abuse is carried out.
The second part focuses on child sexual abuse.
In the third, partner violence and sexual abuse within marriage are examined.
In the fourth, the relationship between sexual abuse and the media is studied, as well as the way in which the Internet is involved in the phenomenon.
More unknown and special forms of sexual abuse are described in the fifth part of the book.
At the end, apart from the outline of the profile of sexual offenders, organizations dealing with the response to sexual abuse are presented.
From studying the sections of the book, the reader benefits because, without uncritically adopting the positions and views of the authors, the reader acquires knowledge or enriches existing knowledge about sexual abuse and, thanks to the analyses of the specialist scientists, moves away from prejudices and mistaken impressions, among other things, concerning the conduct of the perpetrator and the victim.
